Spina Bifida/Anencephaly
Anencephaly is typically an isolated defect. Some cases of spina bifida also occur as an isolated defect, while other cases are caused by an underlying chromosome abnormality or genetic condition.
In the absence of a known genetic cause, genetic testing for non-affected, close relatives is unavailable. Other types of testing may be available on a case by case basis.
Further evaluation and consultation with a trained genetic professional may be warranted. Use the zip code search box to find a trained genetic professional in your area.
