hurameri Posted 11.23.09 | I am convinced that I don't have Bipolar Disorder in spite of the opinions of two psychiatrists. I think that at the time of diagnosis I was suffering from some situational depression and was also acting out in response to it which explained for the manic "episode" they claimed I suffered. The diagnostic criteria are all very subjective - how do you act? Does this cause a problem? - instead of biologically based. I do find that my moods change with the seasons, happier in the winter, too happy in the spring, sad in the summer, and peaceful in the fall, but I don't know if that enough is proof that I should be taking powerful psychotropic drugs. A genetic marker - an objective Yes or No for the disorder - would be a life saver. |
