My sister just had a healthy baby, but I'm worried already. Her husband has MS and I was wondering if that means the baby will have an increased chance of developing it. As far as I know, he was the first person in his family to get it.

The recurrence risk for MS within a family depends on a number of factors including the number of affected people in the family, the gender of affected people, and the degree of relationship (i.e. close relative versus distant relative). If your sister and her husband are interesting in assessing the risk to their children to develop MS, they may benefit from meeting with a genetic counselor.
