I am 85 year old of Armenina decent. My mother had undisgosed FMF and died from it. I had my first attack at age 25 but it was not identified until about age 46. was put on Colchicine. It supressed the illness and made it milder. In the past two years while on Colchine I have had no feeling of problems with FMF. I understand that chromosone 16 gene is defective (pyrin gene (MEFV:608107)) is where the problem lies. Since the problem with FMF started at abe 25, could the problem have stopped now? Can I be tested to find out? If so, where and how? THANKS FOR LISTENING SAM

The genetic mutations that cause familial mediterranean fever do not go away. The duration, severity and frequency of attacks varies and colchine can help prevent attacks. You should talk to your doctor about how often you should meet to screen for disease symptoms.
