batmanomics000 Posted 12.01.09 | My grandmother passed away from colon cancer this past year and I wanted to know if colon cancer is genetic? If colon cancer is genetic will anal sex increase the chances of getting it? |
shweeshwee Posted 01.16.10 | My condolences, one of my grandmothers died of ovarian cancer a few years ago. To answer your question, I don't think it's genetic, but I do think drinking too much alcohol and smoking cigarettes increases your risk of getting it. I do not think anal sex will increase the risk of colon cancer. |
Jordanna Posted 03.12.10 | About 15-20% of colorectal cancer cases are hereditary. This means that although most cases of colon cancer appear to be sporadic, some cases are familial. Individuals with colon cancer diagnosed at a young age (under 50 years old) or with a family history of multiple family members with colon and/or uterine cancer should meet with a cancer genetic counselor for evaluation and to discuss their prevention, screening, genetic testing, and treatment options. You can find a genetic counselor in your area here or make an appointment for a telephone-based consult here. |
