I am a carrier of FD via testing thru Dor Yeshorim Before I date someone I check with Dor Yeshorim to see if the other party is also a carrier. In the last several months I have had 3 out 5or 6 that were turned down because they too are carriers. I began this preemptive process after the boy with whom or relationship blossomed turned out to be a carrier. I know ( and hear hru the grape vine that we both still carry a torch for each other despite the more than 18 months that has gone by. Do you any genetic advice or hope for me? It seams that satisticly the latest incidents are above normal.

If you and the man "hold a torch" for are both carriers of familial dysautonomia, you may want to speak with your Rabbi about if preimplantation genetic diagnosis is considerable an acceptable alternative.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) also called preimplantation testing is used to detect genetic changes in embryos that were created using assisted reproductive techniques such as in-vitro fertilization. In-vitro fertilization involves removing egg cells from a woman's ovaries and fertilizing them with sperm cells outside the body. To perform preimplantation testing, a small number of cells are taken from these embryos and tested for genetic diseases such as FD. Only embryos that screen negative for FD can then be transferred reducing the chance to have an affected child. There are limitations to PGD, however, which should be discussed with a genetic counselor.
