brenbloom Posted 09.27.08 | I wanted to vent about how frustrating it is to have to deal with the financial costs of depression. HMOs, PPOs, etc. refuse to recognize depression for what it is - a physical disease. The coverage provided for mental health care is shameful. Depression can be just as debilitating as a heart ailment, diabetes, or other physical ailment, but we're told to just grin and bear it and that a positive attitude will solve everything. Is anyone else out there as outraged as I am? |
Nora19 Posted 12.08.09 | I wholeheartedly agree! In this day and age, illnesses are not just viruses and baterial infections but they're evolved into mental disorders as well. Several of my family members have been affected with Depression and other mental disorders which could have been treated effectively with medications that were not covered under their insurance plans. It is my hope that in the future, these mental conditions will be given as much weight as physical ailments. |
EreH1580 Posted 02.01.10 | Paying for treatment is my main problem in treating my depression. I don't have insurance (and even when I did, it really got very costly) so the last go around I tried going through the county where I live's mental health program. It was unbelievable how much time and energy I spent trying to get my medication at a low cost. There would be days where I was arriving early for my appointment, only to spend 2-3 hours waiting. If these are my only two options, (and the county program is now my only option since I no longer have health insurance) how on Earth will I ever sufficiently treat my depression? |
