Lucybelle Posted 11.11.09 | My father's has questions on his paternity, his father is in question..
He is not certain that he and his brother share the same father.
His mother was very yound when she married at 14. She had one baby at 16 and another 18 months later ( my father). The couple divorced and the children were raised apart. The older brother went to live with the supposed father's parents and my father stayed with his mother's parents.
The supposed father never had much to do with my dad and his parents (the grandparents) had nothing to do with him at all. Recently someone has suggested the reason is that the children had different father's.
His supposed father has been dead for many years. His brother also died about 20 years ago. His brother had several children. How can we determine if the 2 brothers had the same father without exhuming anyone?
There are 2 likely candidates but they are also deceased. But they have living brothers and children. Would have to handle the situation with kid gloves. My father wants to know the truth and his Mother will not discuss it.
The older brother that has been dead for 20 years |
Jordanna Posted 11.16.09 | If your father knows his presumed brother's children and they are willing to be tested, they could perform avuncular (uncle/aunt - niece /nephew) testing. Or, you and your paternal cousins could have testing to see if you are biologically related. If not, then you can infer that your fathers were not full brothers, but instead, half-brothers as they shared the same biological mother. You can see a comparison of biological relationship testing providers here. It may be helpful to inform the testing provider of the family tree before they perform testing to aid in their interpretation of the results. Hope this information is helpful. |
