SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 21 -- Screening embryos for chromosomal abnormalities before implantation can significantly reduce miscarriage rates in women with idiopathic recurrent pregnancy loss, according to the largest study to date in this population. Women undergoing in vitro fertilization who had a history of miscarriage and for whom embryos were genetically screened before implantation had less than half the expected rate of pregnancy loss, Santiago Munné, Ph.D., director of Reprogenetics, a genetics laboratory specializing in preimplantation genetic diagnosis, reported at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine meeting here.
