A Dutch study finds that genetic markers make it easier to predict a progression from arthralgia to rheumatoid arthritis. This is very promising since early diagnosis of ra is thought to be essential in finding a cure for ra.
Recent findings of a genetic abnormality previously unlinked with Rheumatoid Arthritis may shine light on the variations of development in twins with arthritis. Previously, it was not understood why in vast majority of cases of RA in identical twins only one would develop the disabling debilitating condition while the other twin remained virtually unaffected. This recent discovery of three new genes previously unassociated with the condition could pave the way for understanding the differences and variations in the development of arthritis in identical twins, the role of genetics in the disease and eventually could assist in the development of new treatments and applications towards a cure.
